Creating A Coaching Culture: How To Get Started

On Tuesday 21st, Wednesday 22nd, and Thursday 23rd of September 2021, leadership coach Sue G hosted the fifth instalment of our virtual workshops.

Titled Creating A Coaching Culture: How To Get Started, the workshop defined how a coaching culture can benefit organisations and provided attendees with the opportunity to assess how well their organisations are doing in creating a coaching culture prior to identifying the next steps they need to take to develop a coaching culture.

Drawing on her own experience of embedding a coaching culture in GSK, Sue informed attendees that "the extent to which a coaching culture aligns with the core business strategy is a key factor… the move towards a coaching culture needs to support the organisation's ability to fulfil its mission, achieve its vision and contribute to the achievement of strategic goals…".

Throughout the workshop, Sue encouraged attendees to consider the importance of building a coaching mindset in addition to training people in coaching skills, and the need to engage senior stakeholders as key success factors for developing a coaching culture.

Following the workshop, feedback received from attendees included:

“This was an insightful, thought-provoking session – worth it!”

“The session was relaxed and interactive workshop, led by a facilitator who had a genuine depth of experience on the topic, and provided useful content that I’d have been happy to pay for. Very much exceeded expectations for a free workshop!”

“The Leadership Coaches are what it says on the tin! Great ideas, support, solutions and discussion.”

“I would highly recommend anyone to take some time out of their day and attend one of The Leadership Coaches Zoom sessions. They are thought-provoking, reflective, informative, and above all leave your mind buzzing with new ideas that you want to go and share with people around you.”

“Thank you for making the workshop available. Compared to other free workshops I’ve seen, it was very generous in the quality/level of content – Sue clearly knows her stuff!”

Sharing her thoughts, Leadership Coach and workshop facilitator Sue states “It’s clear that many organisations are now recognising the benefits of having a coaching culture and realising that this style of leadership is better suited to this day and age. As with any organisational culture change, creating a coaching culture takes time and prolonged effort, so there was a lot of interest from attendees to learn from organisations who have been on this journey. It was a pleasure to facilitate a discussion with such a wide range of organisations about what they are doing to create a coaching culture and to share my learnings. The attendees seem to value taking a step back and reviewing their progress to date, coupled with new ideas about how to move forwards.”

Director of Coaching, Zoe Lewis, adds that following our workshop on Coaching Culture, we are thrilled to be speaking with both clients and prospective clients about how they progress from where they are now to where they want to be. Sue & I are already booked to attend a meeting and are arranging further calls about how to develop a coaching culture.

The key learning points for many were:

  • Why are you doing this?

  • What does good look like when it’s in place?

  • Where are you now?

  • How to bridge the gap?”
